One quirk worth knowing if it applies to you: if your birthday falls on the 1st of the month, Medicare treats your IEP as if your birthday were the prior month. What Late Enrollment Actually Costs You

If you don’t have other creditable coverage and you miss your IEP, two separate penalties can apply.

The Part B penalty adds 10 percent to your monthly premium for every full 12-month period you were eligible but didn’t enroll, and that penalty is permanent for as long as you carry Part B. Working at ORNL, Y-12, or a Federal Contractor Past 65

The University of Tennessee Medical Center, Knoxville’s academic hospital and the region’s Level 1 trauma center, operates independently of Covenant Health. If your cardiologist, oncologist, or another specialist practices at UT Medical Center rather than through Covenant, that’s a separate network relationship entirely, and a plan built around Methodist and Fort Sanders may not reach it. This distinction trips up more Oak Ridge residents than any other network question we field.
